Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

Installation:

Install, connect, test, and commission solar PV systems, including panels, inverters, wiring, and balance of system (BOS) components.

Perform electrical wiring, conduit bending, and termination according to blueprints, schematics, and relevant electrical codes (e.g., NEC, SANS 10142-1).

Ensure proper grounding and lightning protection for all solar installations.

Mount and secure solar panels on various roof types and ground-mount structures.

Integrate solar systems with existing electrical infrastructure.

Maintenance & Repair:

Perform routine preventative maintenance on existing solar systems, including inspections, cleaning, and performance checks.

Identify and replace faulty components such as inverters, optimizers, modules, and wiring.

Respond to service calls and emergency repairs in a timely and efficient manner.

Conduct system upgrades and modifications as required.

Safety & Compliance:

Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, regulations, and company policies, including working at heights, lockout/tagout procedures, and electrical safety.

Ensure all installations comply with national and local electrical codes, building codes, and solar industry best practices.

Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Other Duties:

Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and system performance data.

Stay up-to-date with the latest solar technology, industry trends, and electrical code changes.

Participate in ongoing training and professional development.

Qualifications:

Job Summary:

As Electrician you will be leading a team of two and be responsible for the safe and efficient installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for residential and commercial clients. This role requires a licensed electrician with knowledge of solar energy systems, electrical codes, and safety regulations. The Solar Electrician will work independently or as part of a team to ensure all solar installations meet design specifications, performance standards, and local electrical codes. The position is based in the greater Cape Town area.

Qualifications:

Licensure/Certifications:

Valid Electrician’s License (3 phase Wireman’s License in hand).

Valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record.

Skills & Knowledge:

In-depth knowledge of electrical theory, principles, and practices.

Strong understanding of solar PV system design, components, and functionality.

Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.

Familiarity with various solar inverter technologies (string, micro-inverters, hybrid).

Experience with battery storage systems (BESS) is a strong advantage.

Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for electrical and solar system issues.

Proficient in using electrical testing equipment (multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers, PV analyzers).

Knowledge of relevant electrical codes and safety regulations (e.g., NEC, SANS 10142-1).

Ability to work safely at heights and in various weather conditions.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

Basic computer proficiency for data entry and system monitoring.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 25kg) regularly.

Ability to climb ladders, work on rooftops, and in confined spaces.

Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.

Stamina to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
